Starlog Interview

'Starlog' #253 August:

Will Patton (Armageddon): "With The Postman and Armageddon, I'm jumping from apocalypse to apocalypse. In Armageddon, I play one of the oil rig guys who gets sent into outer space by Billy Bob Thornton to save the world from the asteroid. I still feel like we're shooting Armageddon. We all had oil all over us. I actually enjoy the action stuff. I told (director) Michael Bay that I wasn't that interested in the dialogue. I just wanted to do the action, to be near the fire and do the falls. That's the fun part of Armageddon. I've ended up doing two science fiction movies in a row because at one point I mentioned to my agent, 'You know, I'm really interested in science fiction. I want to do an SF film.' He obviously took me very seriously. Maybe that's what's happening. The Postman was an old-fashioned, post-apocalyptic SF movie, and Armageddon is a hardware, special effect movie. Selfishly, one of the things that I like about Armageddon is that I'm going from Gereneral Bethlehem to a really good, simply guys who ends up being a hero. that was good for my mental health, and I also always wanted to see what it was like to go into outer space."
