As for Will's reading of James Lee Burke books - this is
where Will really caught my attention. I've read all of Burke's books - his
writing is so vivid that I took a trip to New Iberia about 5 years ago and
got to see a lot of the places in that area of Louisiana that are in the
Robichaeux books. I got the audio books to listen to while I drove, and
couldn't believe how well the reader captured Burke's prose. When I ran out
of the Burke books, I went searching for more read by Will Patton and that's
how I found Julia's site - and now this one.
New Iberia is pretty much as I had
expected. Small town right on Bayou Teche.

| We got there
on Sunday, so not much to do, but we ate at Victor's Cafeteria and
toured The Shadows - both are mentioned in Burke's books. |

The
bookstore sold a map called Dave Robichaeux's New Iberia (which we
bought, of course), and they noted places mentioned in the books (and
specifically, which books for each place). Folks there were always
asking if we were there because of the books - guess we weren't the
first to visit for that reason. The woman at our B&B said she had
folks from Australia there just before us. |

While we
were in the area, we hooked up with this cajun fella, who gave us a
great swamp tour in St. Martin Parish with his little girl and his two
dogs - what a hoot! He told us about a place in Lafayette where we
could listen to blues and that was great. Followed a lot of cane
trucks and saw lots of cane fields, so definitely we felt like we were
in Robichaeux-land. I had wanted to see Breaux Bridge so we drove thru
there to head back through Baton Rouge. |
