Mo's Trip

Like many fans here, I originally became interested in the work of James Lee Burke through Will's audio books.  But as I started reading the actual print copies, I just fell in love with New Iberia and Cajun country, and I wanted to visit it. My mom's side of the family originally came from the same area that the Cajuns came from.  In fact she tells me that my great-grandmother used to complain about the Maine weather and said that she wished her ancestors hadn't stopped in Maine but had gone all the way south to Louisiana.  So my interest in this area comes honestly!

When a business trip to Louisiana seemed a reality, I made sure to arrange our schedule so that we could spend a few days in the New Iberia area...and we ended up being in Cajun Country for two weeks!

You can read my Travel Journal in a special forum of the Message Board and here are pictures that I think capture this area.  And... I WANT TO GO BACK!!!!

The swamps off in the distance, by the side of the canal. We can travel freely on the canal, but can not go into the swamps.

Cypress trees in the swamps. Notice how they are hung with Spanish Moss and their "knees" are popping up from the water (part of their root system).

A nice view of the man-made canal in the bayou that has swamps off to the side. The gas companies make these so that they can access their natural gas wells easier.

The green you see in the distance is actually part of the swamp, not grassy land.

A couple of men fishing on the bayou... could they be Dave R. and Clete?

This is our house! Posse!

Is is right next door to the Shadows and is up for sale. Let's say we pool our money and buy it!! It's only $500,000...

They sell all of JLBurke's stuff. The will sell new editions of his work, signed by him, for the price of the book, nothing extra. I'm already on their list for his new Dave R. book coming out in  October. If anyone wants more info on this, let me know.
